The Midcity Makers Market - a Slice of Handmade Heaven in Baton Rouge!

I am always looking for things to do on the weekend and it usually involves creativity.

When a friend suggested that we make a trip to the Midcity Makers Market (MMM) in Baton Rouge, LA, I texted, "Absolutely!" along with a goofy Grumpy Cat wearing shades while nodding her heading up and down iPhone sticker. That's my "Yup, we're doin' it!" sticker.

I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of handmade goods from local artists (Makers) and by the artists' willingness to talk about their work and what inspires them to create. There was also live music provided by local band, The Michael Foster Project. When I tell you that the band is super talented and makes you want to get up and dance, believe it! You can learn more about The Michael Foster Project on their Facebook page.

While at the MMM, I purchased beautiful earrings made out of among other materials, smashed bottle caps and metal scraps. The earrings were made by the lovely Trish who makes jewelry out of "found items." Trish is passionate about

up-cycling and recycling which I admire and appreciate. Check out her site at

Among my other favorite Makers (in no specific order) at the event were:

  • Mimosa Handcrafted Jewelry - I had the pleasure of meeting lovely and lively Madeline who heads up this venture. The jewelry collection features bronze, a beautiful metal that in my opinion, does not get enough recognition these days. As a matter of fact, Madeline agreed and we spoke a bit about that very topic. Thank you to Madeline and "Team Mimosa" for sharing your talents and bringing us beautiful pieces that will last a lifetime.

  • Andi Lynn's Pure & Custom Formulary - Andrea is passionate about using holistic healing and products to help people feel better. Her line features organic syrups, tonics, teas and drops. I purchased her Pillow Drops formulation and used it last night. You add about 30 drops to liquid (I used water). For the first time in a long time, I had a very restful sleep without feeling groggy. Amazing! Thank you Andrea for this godsend.

  • Counter Space BR - I tasted and purchased some of Sarah's delicious salted chocolate chip cookies - O... M... G! The cookie was absolutely perfect - the right texture, right amount of chocolate chips, and not overly salted. I look forward to purchasing more of Sarah's cookies and cakes.

  • AquaLight Photography - Hop on over to Instagram to view beautiful photography by a Baton Rouge photographer/artist. Her photos feature locations from many places around the world and are for sale as decorative prints.

  • DSGN CRFT - Damien Mitchell is an amazing artist who creates gorgeous, quality handmade leather accessories. Head over to his website to view and purchase items from his line.

  • Ghada Henagan Ceramics - You will love the colors, textures and little details in featured in Ghada's handmade pottery collection. Her website lists her upcoming events and items for sale.

  • Firefly Jewelry - Be sure to view this unique handcrafted jewelry collection by artist Elizabeth Martin that features concrete/cement. You can read about her story and what inspired her creativity at her website.

You can see a complete list of Makers here.

I hope to see you at a future event. ❤️
